Like his brother Joseph, he became a monk at Monastery of Mor Hananyo where he was later ordained priest before 1355. In 1375, Abraham succeeded his brother as metropolitan of Amid, upon which he assumed the name Cyril. During this time Abraham compiled a liturgy containing anaphoras of the Church Fathers, including an anaphora written by his brother, Joseph.
